Samsunspor's head coach Thomas Reis made statements regarding the agenda of the Süper Lig. When asked who the strongest team in Turkey is, Reis replied, "When you look at Galatasaray's squad, they have very good and high-quality players. I can say that it is very, very difficult to surpass them."
Thomas Reis, the head coach of Samsunspor, attended the conference titled "The Power of Sports and Translation" organized by the Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) Translation Community at the Atatürk Cultural Center and answered questions.
'IT IS A UNIFYING LANGUAGE'
German coach Reis stated that football is a sport that brings together all segments of society. He mentioned that he came to Samsun from a different culture in Germany and is trying to live and learn this culture. "We don't have only Turkish players in our team. We have players from 14 different countries and 14 different cultures. Of course, it's not easy to keep them together, but football has only one language. In this language, it is a unifying language for us. I am very happy to be the head coach of Samsunspor," he said.
Reis noted that working in Turkey is a new experience for him, saying, "Honestly, I was afraid of making mistakes after coming here... I had a fear and concern that I might disrespect the culture and lifestyle here. But so far, nothing has happened. I think the process will be easier from now on."
'I REALLY LIKE TURKISH CUISINE'
Recalling that he has been working in Samsun for 1.5 years, Reis said, "I really like Turkish cuisine. Being German, I know the taste of the dishes there. I miss those flavors as well. Of course, every country has its own cuisine and food culture. But Turkish dishes are magnificent."
'GALATASARAY HAS A VERY GOOD SQUAD'
In response to the question, 'Who is the strongest team in Turkey?', Reis also reminded that this year Samsunspor is competing in different arenas, saying, "We know that expectations are very high. It is very normal for this to be the case. As a coach, I am not one to talk much about the squads of other teams. But when you look at Galatasaray's squad, they have very good and high-quality players. I can say that it is very, very difficult to surpass them. Ultimately, we will play against them, and they are the best team in the league. Looking at other teams, tough matches await us. As long as we show our performance, we will always have the opportunity to win. I think we demonstrated this in the Fenerbahçe match. If we want to achieve good results, we must give 100% in every match. Besides, we are a team competing in Europe. We are trying to represent not only our city but also Turkish football in the best way possible. We want to make the Turkish people proud."
