The words spoken by AK Party Kırklareli Deputy Ahmet Gökhan Sarıçam at an opening ceremony received a strong backlash. Sarıçam said, "If there is dissatisfaction, I can also say to the citizens, 'Go and cling to the throat of the healthcare personnel; I, as the state, have done my part, and they are the ones not providing the service.'"
AK Party Kırklareli Member of Parliament Ahmet Gökhan Sarıçam made a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kırklareli Pınarhisar 5 Medical Family Health Center 112 Emergency Health Services Station Building held on February 10. Sarıçam's remarks directed at healthcare workers drew significant backlash.
"GO AND CLING TO THE THROAT OF HEALTH PERSONNEL"
In his speech, Sarıçam stated, "Every year, for almost 2 years, we are building whatever infrastructure exists in Lüleburgaz, Babaeski, Kırklareli, Pınarhisar. This is all we can do. We are not doctors, we are not nurses. If there is dissatisfaction in the future, I can also incite the citizens by saying, 'Go and cling to the throat of health personnel. I have done my part as the state. They are the ones not providing the service.' Let me say this openly," he expressed.
"WE WILL FILE A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT"
In response to Sarıçam's statements, the Physicians' Union announced that they would file a criminal complaint. The Physicians' Union stated, "As the Physicians' Union, we will file a criminal complaint against AK Party 28th Term Kırklareli Member of Parliament, lawyer, and businessman Ahmet Gökhan Sarıçam for his remarks during the opening ceremony of the Kırklareli Pınarhisar 5 Medical Family Health Center and Provincial Health Services Station building. In our country, where violence in healthcare is so prevalent, a member of parliament who directly targets physicians and healthcare workers, and even goes so far as to call on the public to 'Go and cling to their throats,' cannot serve this nation. We invite Ahmet Gökhan Sarıçam, a graduate of Istanbul University Faculty of Law, to apologize to physicians and healthcare workers and to retract his statements!"
