Coastal erosion occurred in the Küçükboğaz area of Karasu district in Sakarya due to adverse weather conditions and the sea's violent waves.
THE SEA RETREATED 50 METERS IN A DAY
The retaining wall of a plot in the area collapsed under the damage of the waves. Along with coastal erosion, the Black Sea retreated approximately 50 meters. The erosion approaching the road and taking part of the land in the area posed a threat to properties and the local population.
"THE SEA HAS REACHED THE ROAD"
Serpil Yüksel, a resident of Karasu Mahallesi, said, "We can't sleep until morning, our houses will get flooded. The sea has reached the road. I don't know what will happen next. Authorities need to come here and inform us about what they should do. This is not something we can handle alone."
"WE ARE LIVING IN FEAR"
Yüksel also stated, "We are living in fear. The municipality needs to intervene here, and the authorities need to take a look. It started yesterday morning and took this area by evening.
The sea calmed down today. If it doesn't calm down, it will probably flood into houses or workplaces again," she expressed.
