Sergen Yalçın's Unprecedented VAR Referee Proposal to TFF

Sports commentator and coach Sergen Yalçın made statements on Ekol TV regarding the Turkish Football Federation's decision to appoint foreign VAR referees. Yalçın, who expressed doubts about the quality of foreign referees, made a noteworthy suggestion to the federation.

"HOW DO WE KNOW IF A REFEREE IS GOOD?"

Pointing out that the level of upcoming foreign referees is uncertain, Sergen Yalçın said, "We don't know the referees. Last year they were coming from Portugal. How do we know if the referee is a good referee? Nobody knows this guy," he stated.

"WE NEED TO BRING IN PEOPLE WHO HAVE RETIRED FROM REFEREEING"

On the other hand, Sergen Yalçın made a VAR referee suggestion to the TFF, saying "my solution proposal." He stated, "We need to bring in people who have retired from refereeing for VAR." Sergen Yalçın added, "Is it that difficult to sit in VAR and analyze positions? Does it matter if someone sitting in VAR has retired from refereeing? I don't think so," he said.

RECOMMENDED CÜNEYT ÇAKIR AND FIRAT AYDINUS

Recommending Cüneyt Çakır and Fırat Aydınus, Sergen Yalçın said, "Today, will Cüneyt Çakır be a VAR referee or not? The person sitting in VAR will analyze positions anyway. The person won't go out on the field. They will watch the match on television. If a solution is to be produced, this is my solution proposal. Do you think things will improve if a foreign referee sits? Everyone will still criticize the foreign referee. These issues will not improve in any way. It has come this way and will continue this way," he concluded.
