The defendant Yunus Emre Geçti, who killed police officer Şeyda Yılmaz in Ümraniye, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional murder of a duty officer."

The court has made a decision regarding the defendant Yunus Emre Geçti (19), who martyred police officer Şeyda Yılmaz (27) in a conflict that broke out in Ümraniye, Istanbul.

AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT AND 26 YEARS 9 MONTHS IN PRISON

The defendant was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional murder against a duty officer" against the martyred police officer Şeyda Yılmaz, 20 years for the crime of "attempted intentional murder against a duty officer" against police officer K.H.S., 3 years for the crime of "causing injury with possible intent" against his mother Pınar Geçti, and 3 years and 9 months in prison for the crime of "resisting the execution of duty."

WHAT HAPPENED?

On September 22, 2024, Yunus Emre Geçti, who was caught for the crime of "motorcycle theft" and subsequently fled, was captured in the Ihlamurkuyu neighborhood, where a scuffle occurred among the duty officers while he was being taken into custody. Geçti, who has 26 criminal records for various offenses, had taken the duty officer's weapon and opened fire on the police and nearby citizens. In the ensuing conflict, police officer Şeyda Yılmaz was martyred.
