Former Fenerbahçe defender Simon Kjaer announced that he has ended his professional football career at the age of 35. The Danish player played his last match in a friendly game between the Denmark National Team and Norway, ahead of EURO 2024.

Simon Kjaer, who played for Fenerbahçe for a period and most recently played for Milan, has ended his professional football career.

"RIGHT TIME"

The 35-year-old defender stated in an interview with TV 2 Sport regarding his decision to retire from football, "It is really the right time to close this chapter of my life. This is not a decision I made after this summer; it is a decision I thought about before the European Championship. Last autumn, I realized that my time in Milan might be coming to an end. I definitely didn't need to announce what would happen to anyone other than myself," he expressed.

Simon Kjaer played his last match in a friendly game where the Danish National Team faced Norway before EURO 2024.

PLAYED 88 MATCHES FOR FENERBAHÇE

Kjaer, who transferred to Fenerbahçe from France's Lille team for 7.65 million euros in the summer of 2015, moved to the Spanish team Sevilla for 12.5 million euros in the summer of 2017. The experienced 35-year-old defender won the hearts of fans with his successful performance at Fenerbahçe. Kjaer has played for Midtjylland, Palermo, Wolfsburg, Lille, Fenerbahçe, Sevilla, Atalanta, and most recently Milan during his career.
