In the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, heavy snowfall and blizzards have negatively impacted life, while moments of a citizen trapped on the road praying despite the storm were captured by mobile phone cameras.
Intermittent snowfall that has been continuing for about a week across Hakkari is causing disruptions in daily life. Due to adverse weather conditions, many village roads have been closed to traffic, and education has been suspended for 4 days throughout the district.
TEAMS RUSHED TO THE AID OF STRANDED VEHICLES
Many vehicles traveling on the Yüksekova-Şemdinli highway became stranded due to the sudden onset of heavy snow and storm. Road crews and Provincial Special Administration teams dispatched to the area, where visibility dropped to near zero in places, managed to open the closed roads as a result of intense efforts, ensuring the safe passage of vehicles.
PRAYED UNDER THE SNOWSTORM
An interesting moment was captured on camera during the minutes when transportation came to a halt. As prayer time approached, a citizen, disregarding the freezing cold and severe storm, spread his coat on the snow and performed his prayer. These images, recorded by other citizens with mobile phones, garnered attention on social media.
SNOW WORK CONTINUES UNINTERRUPTED
In the region, snow removal teams are working around the clock at critical points to ensure the continuity of transportation and to reopen closed village roads to traffic. Authorities are warning drivers not to set out without chains and to take precautions against the risk of snowstorms.
