While summer temperatures continue to affect the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, snow removal efforts are ongoing on Mount Cilo at an altitude of 3,500 meters.

SNOW DEPTH EXCEEDS 6 METERS IN PLACES

Mount Cilo, one of Turkey's highest mountains, remains covered with a thick snow layer even in July. Teams from the Yüksekova District Special Administration have been working for about 25 days to open the road that connects the plateau, glacial lakes, and military base area, which was closed to traffic due to heavy snowfall throughout the winter. Of the 17-kilometer road providing access to the İkiyaka and Sat Lakes, plateaus, and military base area, 16 kilometers have been opened to traffic. In the region where snow depth exceeds 6 meters in places, the remaining 1 kilometer of road is expected to be completed soon.

SCENES RIVALING WINTER APPEAR

In Yüksekova, where summer is in full swing, the thick snow cover on the higher elevations of Mount Cilo draws attention. The landscapes around the snow-covered peaks and glacial lakes offer scenes that rival winter for both locals and visitors.
