Although the cold wave affecting our country is giving way to temperatures above seasonal norms, this situation will change in a short time. Our country is coming under the influence of a new cold wave coming from Siberia. The new air mass will lower temperatures and snowfall will be seen again.
WEATHER GETTING COLDER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE WEEK
Starting from the beginning of the week, Turkey will be under the influence of a new cold wave. On Monday, severe cold and snowfall will be effective across the country. While temperatures will drop by 8-9 degrees, heavy snowfall is expected in many provinces, especially in the eastern regions.
IT WILL LAST FOR 3 DAYS
The General Directorate of Meteorology announced that snowfall will begin in Istanbul on Wednesday. The snow is expected to continue for 3 days and is predicted to be particularly intense. The precipitation may make transportation difficult and could further complicate life due to winter conditions.
CITY CENTER WILL ALSO BE COVERED IN WHITE
Istanbul residents are warned that this time the snow will not be limited to just the high regions, but will also reach the city center. Due to the intensity of the snowfall, it is stated that roads may be closed and significant disruptions in traffic may occur. For this reason, Istanbul residents are urged to take precautions early if they want to be prepared for winter.
"DON'T SAY WINTER IS OVER IN FEBRUARY"
CNN Türk Meteorology Advisor Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen made important statements about the weather. Şen said, "We will fully experience winter in February. Temperatures will rise to 12-13 degrees in the Marmara Region towards the weekend, but a new cold wave is coming next week. If it drops to 5 degrees on Wednesday, we will see the 3rd snowfall in Istanbul," he said.
Prof. Dr. Şen predicts that this snowfall will not be the last, and that there may be one or two more snowfalls in Istanbul. He noted that with each new snowfall, the thickness of the snow on the ground will increase a little more.
SNOW POSSIBILITY HAS EXCEEDED 70%
According to Global Forecast System (GFS) predictions, the probability of snowfall has exceeded 70%. Next week, many cities, especially Istanbul, will experience knee-deep snow. While it is expected that the snow will leave Istanbul and the weather will warm up, the megacity will come under the influence of a new cold wave coming from Siberia.
