The severe southwesterly wind that affected Istanbul caused moments of fear in Sarıyer. A giant plane tree, uprooted in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood, fell onto a luxury car parked nearby. At that moment, another vehicle passing by narrowly escaped the disaster, as captured by cameras second by second.
After the storm warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the south wind, which increased its speed across Istanbul, caused destruction in the Sarıyer Cumhuriyet neighborhood, Dönence Street.
At around 3:30 PM, a centuries-old plane tree, unable to withstand the strong wind, fell with a loud noise onto a parked car with the license plate 34 NIM 085.
MIRACULOUS ESCAPE, SURVIVED BY SECONDS
The most striking moment of the incident was revealed in the footage captured by security cameras. It was understood that a car traveling on the road narrowly escaped being crushed by the branches at the moment the tree fell.
Fortunately, there were no injuries in the incident, but the surrounding citizens experienced great panic. Police, fire brigade, and municipal teams were dispatched to the scene shortly after the report.
TEAMS MOBILIZED, STREET CLEARED
The teams that arrived at the scene chopped the tree that had fallen like a nightmare onto the car into pieces with electric saws. After long efforts, the cut tree was removed from the road, while the car sustained significant material damage.
Police teams warned citizens to be cautious of trees and signs that could fall due to the continuing south wind.
