Due to the seismic activity in the Aegean Sea, it has been announced that employers can suspend their employees' employment contracts during the state of emergency declared on Santorini Island for specific dates.

Due to the increasing seismic activity in the Aegean Sea in recent weeks, it has been reported that business owners operating on the island of Santorini, where a state of emergency has been declared, may suspend the employment contracts of their employees.

In a statement published by the Greek Ministry of Labor, it was noted that due to the state of emergency, employers on the island have been given the opportunity to suspend the employment contracts they have with their employees for the period from February 1 to March 3.

LAYOFFS ARE PROHIBITED

Furthermore, the statement indicated that layoffs would also be prohibited during this process to prevent any grievances for the employees whose contracts are suspended.

The statement expressed that any layoffs made during this period would be considered invalid, and emphasized that after the suspension period ends, employers who have suspended their employees' contracts will be required to re-employ them under the same conditions.

534 EURO SUPPORT PAYMENT WILL BE MADE

Additionally, it was stated in the announcement that employees whose contracts are suspended will receive a special support payment of 534 euros for 30 days from the government, and that their insurance premiums and holiday bonuses will also be covered by the state.

STATE OF EMERGENCY WILL LAST UNTIL MARCH 1

The Greek General Secretariat for Civil Protection recently decided to implement a state of emergency in Santorini, which has been affected by the recent intense seismic activity in the Aegean, until March 1.
