Due to the strong winds and adverse weather conditions affecting Istanbul, aircraft scheduled to land at Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport were forced to circle in the air.
Following the warning issued by the Turkish State Meteorological Service for Istanbul, adverse weather conditions began to take effect, particularly in the northern parts, starting from the evening hours.
AIRCRAFT COULD NOT LAND FOR A LONG TIME
Due to strong winds and reduced visibility in northern Istanbul, aircraft were forced to circle in the air. After visibility returned to normal, the aircraft landed smoothly at Istanbul Airport.
In a statement made today by the Istanbul Governorship, it was announced: "Intermittent showers and occasional thunderstorms are expected across Istanbul starting from Wednesday, July 22. The precipitation is forecast to be effective, intermittently as showers and thunderstorms, in the western districts of the European side (Çatalca, Silivri, Arnavutköy, and Büyükçekmece) after noon, and locally across the province in the evening hours. Between July 23 and 26, locally effective showers and thunderstorms are expected across the province. Winds from the north and northeast are expected to be moderate, occasionally strong (30-50 km/h), and on Saturday, temporarily reaching 40-60 km/h. Additionally, air temperatures, which are 1-3°C above seasonal norms, are expected to decrease significantly starting Thursday, dropping 2-4°C below seasonal norms. Citizens are advised to be cautious and take precautions against adverse conditions such as floods, inundations, strong winds during precipitation, and disruptions in transportation."
