Ferdi Tayfur, who passed away at the age of 79 on the evening of January 2, in the hospital where he was treated in Antalya, was taken from the Zincirlikuyu Funeral Home to the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM). A memorial ceremony was held for the master artist at AKM. Before the funeral prayer to be held in Levent, his relatives and fans, who came to Beyoğlu, created a crowd in front of AKM.

ORHAN GENCEBAY: THEY TOLD A LOT OF LIES TO DRIVE A WEDGE BETWEEN US

Orhan Gencebay, who came to the stage at AKM to give a speech, recalled that many lies were told in the past to drive a wedge between him and Ferdi Tayfur. In his speech, Gencebay said:

"They had separated us as Ferdi's fans and Orhan's fans. We loved each other very much. They told a lot of lies to drive a wedge between us. We received news about him from his nephew until the very end. We were very good friends. He is my beloved brother. Hz. Mevlana says, 'We are from the people of the realm of meaning.' In this world, there is a material and a spiritual realm. In the material realm, everything is tangible and visible. In the realm of meaning, it is not seen, but felt. That realm of meaning keeps us alive. We artists are from the people of that realm of meaning. Both the material and spiritual realms are definitely applauded by our people. The interest of our people has motivated us, and thanks to that, we have created many things.

My dear brother Ferdi Tayfur performed his duty in this world extraordinarily well and passed away. We were very close brothers. Right now, I have a fever of 39 degrees, and that's why I apologize for appearing before you like this. It is our primary duty to come to bid farewell to my dear brother. Additionally, let’s keep the artist alive so that art can live. It is the artist who makes art."
