The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the regular contacts between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin play a key role in the development of political dialogue between the two countries. The statement came ahead of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's visit to Russia.

MINISTER FIDAN TO MEET WITH HIS COUNTERPART LAVROV
The Ministry issued a written statement regarding Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's working visit to Russia on June 15-17.
The statement noted that Fidan will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, stating, "During the meeting, the two ministers plan to consult on the tense situation in the Middle East and ways to resolve the Palestinian issue, in the context of US and Israeli aggression against Iran. They will also exchange views on the situation in the Black Sea region, including issues related to ensuring navigation safety."
SYRIA, LIBYA, AND THE SOUTH CAUCASUS ALSO ON THE AGENDA
The statement added that the Fidan-Lavrov meeting will also address the situations in Syria and Libya, saying, "Russia and Turkey are making significant contributions to the process of improving the situation in Syria. On Libya, we are determined to maintain contacts with our Turkish partners."
The statement noted that the ministers will also consult on issues such as removing barriers to transport and communication links in the South Caucasus and ensuring cooperation, adding, "Russia and Turkey are in favor of a peaceful and predictable South Caucasus. This can be achieved through joint initiatives within the framework of the South Caucasus Regional Cooperation Platform. Russia welcomes the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey. The Russian side is also interested in developing integration processes in Central Asia."
The statement shared that Lavrov and Fidan will also discuss trade and economic cooperation.
Pointing out that Turkey is one of the most attractive tourist destinations for Russian citizens, the statement noted that 6.9 million Russian citizens visited Turkey last year.

The statement highlighted that Russian President Putin and President Erdoğan met twice last year and had telephone conversations eight times in 2025-2026, stating, "The regular contacts between Putin and Erdoğan play a key role in the development of Russian-Turkish political dialogue."
The statement emphasized that contacts between the foreign ministries of the two countries and cooperation between their parliaments are ongoing.
