Turkey has been shaken by successive news of wildfires coming from the Aegean and Marmara regions. Fires that started in agricultural lands in the Dikili district of Izmir and the Osmangazi district of Bursa quickly spread to shrublands and forests due to the wind. In both provinces, the forestry organization is conducting a simultaneous struggle from the air and on land to bring the flames under control.
A fire broke out for an undetermined reason in an agricultural area around noon in the Yaylayurt neighborhood of İzmir's Dikili district. The flames, which started in an open area, quickly changed direction due to the adverse effect of the wind prevalent in the region and spread to the nearby maquis area.
FOREST TEAMS RACE AGAINST TIME
Immediately after the fire was reported, the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry went on alert and dispatched numerous teams to the area. In order to prevent the flames from spreading to larger areas and possible settlements, the teams launched a tough struggle against the wind.
9 AIRCRAFT ON DUTY
Forest teams aiming to bring the fire under control as soon as possible are conducting a simultaneous operation both by air and land. To prevent the flames from spreading further, extinguishing efforts in the area are being carried out with the following vehicles:
- For aerial intervention: 4 planes and 5 helicopters
- For ground intervention: 23 water tankers and 2 bulldozers
The uninterrupted efforts launched by firefighting and forest teams in the region to bring the flames under control and fully extinguish the fire continue at full speed.
