The Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, made important statements regarding test exams and open-ended questions, which millions of parents and students are curious about. Tekin stated, "Everyone says that test exams should be eliminated as soon as possible, but there are concerns regarding the assessment of open-ended questions. We are developing a project with TÜBİTAK related to artificial intelligence-supported open-ended questions."
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin made important statements regarding the test exams and open-ended questions that millions of students and parents have been eagerly waiting for. Minister Tekin announced that they are working on a new project in this area.
Minister Tekin spoke at the Bab-ı Ali Meetings organized under the title "Transformation and Innovative Approaches Targeted in the National Education Infrastructure in the Age of Information and Technology." He stated that they aim to make a positive contribution to the education system in Turkey, emphasizing that strengthening the technological infrastructure of young people is one of the Ministry's primary goals.
"WE ARE CREATING A TECHNOLOGICAL ECOSYSTEM"
Stating that they have strengthened the facilities of schools in accordance with the requirements of the age, Tekin also highlighted the importance of steps that will enable students and teachers to adapt to technology. Tekin noted that they aim to establish a healthy technology ecosystem in Turkey in terms of both production and consumption, expressing that all 65,000 public schools are open to internet access.
"EBA IS ONE OF THE RICHEST EDUCATIONAL PORTALS IN THE WORLD"
Tekin stated that the Educational Informatics Network (EBA) is one of the richest educational portals in the world in terms of content. Emphasizing that EBA is continuously updated, Tekin noted that students can access hundreds of thousands of content through interactive boards.
"WE HAVE ESTABLISHED AN AI-SUPPORTED MINISTRY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM"
Minister Tekin stated that artificial intelligence applications have started to be widely used in education and said the following:
"We must establish a mechanism that allows us to monitor everything from personnel policy to tracking students' success, from physical school investments to absenteeism, and intervene instantly. For the first time in Turkey, we have established a ministry management system that operates through a decision support system. This system monitors every area, from the maintenance and repair processes of schools to the teaching load of teachers, with the support of artificial intelligence."
Tekin expressed that the system will make decision-making processes more rational and contribute to the efficient use of public resources.
AI STUDIES IN EDUCATION CONTINUE
Recalling that a "Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Applications" has been established under the General Directorate of Innovation and Educational Technologies within the Ministry of National Education, Tekin stated that this unit coordinates all artificial intelligence processes.
"We closely follow international developments regarding artificial intelligence applications in education, and we systematically carry out studies in this field in Turkey."
"WE ARE DEVELOPING AN OPEN-ENDED QUESTION PROJECT WITH TÜBİTAK"
Minister Tekin also announced that they are working on a new artificial intelligence project to eliminate test exams and evaluate open-ended questions:
"Everyone says that test exams should be abolished, but there are doubts about the objective evaluation of open-ended questions. Therefore, in collaboration with TÜBİTAK, we are developing a project for the evaluation of AI-supported open-ended questions."
Tekin also emphasized that the Ministry of National Education is the institution that prepared Turkey's first artificial intelligence policy document and action plan in this regard.
