In the İnegöl district of Bursa, a baby named "Ali Atilla," born via cesarean section in the 37th week, has been recorded as Turkey's longest and heaviest baby, weighing 6 kilograms and 150 grams and measuring 59 centimeters in length. The baby's mother said, "We were expecting a little over 5 kilograms, so we were surprised when he was born weighing 6 kilograms and 150 grams. Thank God he is healthy; that is a wonderful thing."
Ali Atilla Bebek, who was born in the İnegöl district of Bursa, has entered the literature. Ece Bircan (28), the Director of a Private Health Center, who was under the supervision of Obstetrician Dr. İbrahim Yaşa at a private hospital in the city, learned during a check-up as she approached the final weeks of her pregnancy that her baby would be born overweight. The couple, along with her lawyer husband Murat Tunç Bircan (32), was expecting their baby to be around 5 kilograms, but when the baby was born at 6 kilograms and 150 grams in the 37th week of pregnancy, they were greatly surprised.
The baby, who was born via cesarean section and for whom the doctor and his team showed great sensitivity during the delivery, was named "Ali Atilla." Ali Atilla, with an approximately 2 kilograms excess weight and a height of 59 centimeters, was recorded in the birth records. In the baby's first examination, it was observed that he weighed 6 kilograms and 220 grams, including his clothes.
"THE LARGEST BABY IN TURKEY"
Obstetrician Dr. İbrahim Yaşa, who stated that the health conditions of the mother and baby were good during the post-delivery checks, said, "The baby was monitored by me. The delivery took place a few days ago. There was a challenging follow-up. The baby was gaining weight very quickly. We delivered a male baby weighing 6 kilograms and 150 grams. In the 2024-2025 screenings, he is the largest baby in Turkey. Last year, a 6-kilogram baby in Spain made headlines in Europe. A few months ago, a baby born in one of our eastern provinces weighing 5 kilograms and 250 grams also caused quite a sensation. Our baby was also a 37-week-old baby. He is a candidate to enter the literature. We kept the mother in the hospital for a couple of days. However, as the pains began to increase, we decided to perform a cesarean section even though it was 3 weeks before the normal delivery time," he expressed.
"IT SURPRISED US TOO"
Father Murat Tunç Bircan thanked the doctors and healthcare workers who contributed to the healthy birth of their baby, while mother Ece Bircan said, "We were actually expecting it because it was clear from the ultrasound checks every week and every month that the baby was going to be overweight. Dr. İbrahim was saying it, but of course, while we were expecting a little over 5 kilograms, the sudden birth of 6 kilograms and 150 grams surprised us too. Thank God it is healthy, which is a beautiful thing. Hopefully, it will continue like this," she said.
