Citizens are concerned about stray dogs in Çekmeköy. Families are afraid to send their children to school due to the increasing attacks, especially around Kadirova Street. While residents express their frustration over Çekmeköy Municipality's inaction despite their complaints, Mayor Orhan Çerkez's post about the "Sesame Street" project has further fueled the backlash.
The increasing number of stray dogs in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul has started to worry the residents. While packs of dogs roam around, families have become afraid to send their children to school.
MUNICIPALITY INDIFFERENT TO COMPLAINTS
Residents of the district stated that they have reported the issue to the Çekmeköy Municipality multiple times but have not received any results. One of the citizens expressed their frustration by saying, "Does someone have to get hurt for the municipality to hear us?"
KADIROVA STREET HAS BECOME A DANGER POINT
It was stated that the number of stray dogs around Kadirova Street has increased uncontrollably and that some citizens have been attacked. Parents mentioned that their children experience great fear while going to school in the mornings, and many families have had to take their children to school by car.
MAYOR ÇERKEZ'S POST INCREASED REACTIONS EVEN MORE
As reactions grew, the post made by Çekmeköy Mayor Orhan Çerkez on his social media account stating, "We have started the works of our Sesame Street project where our children can play safely and breathe easily" further angered the residents. Citizens commented by referring to the project, saying, "First make the streets safe, then create a play street for the children."
