A critical warning from a professor to Istanbul residents: Go home early.

AKOM has warned that stormy weather and thunderstorms are expected in Istanbul starting from the afternoon. The rainfall is anticipated to be effective until Saturday morning. Meteorology expert Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen advised residents of the city, saying, "Istanbulites, go home early today. I will be returning home after 1:00 PM."

The weather in Istanbul is changing in the afternoon. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) announced that storm and thunderstorm showers are expected in the city today (October 24, Friday) starting from the afternoon hours.

In a statement from AKOM, it was noted that the wind would strengthen from the afternoon and would blow intermittently in the form of a storm.

Additionally, it was stated that intermittent thunderstorm showers are expected to continue until the morning hours of Saturday, starting from Silivri, Çatalca, and Arnavutköy. The statement included, "The rains that started in our western districts are expected to be effective in places with strong intensity in the European Side, around the Bosphorus, and generally in the Anatolian Side from the evening hours." It was requested that citizens be cautious and take precautions against the storm.

Meteorology expert Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen called on Istanbul residents. Prof. Şen, who said, "Istanbul residents, go home early today," added, "I am returning home after the 1:00 PM TV broadcast."

In his post, Şen also noted the following:

"The rain starting from Thrace after 3:00 PM will be strong in places around Istanbul and gradually in Kocaeli, Sakarya, Düzce, Zonguldak, and Bartın in the evening hours. Sudden floods, water accumulation, lightning, local small hail, and strong winds during the rain can cause adverse conditions. Caution and precautions should be taken."
