Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard announced that a Swedish citizen, who was detained last June, was executed today in Iran.
Following the execution of a person today in Iran for allegedly spying for Israel's foreign intelligence agency Mossad, a statement has come from Sweden.
A SWEDISH CITIZEN EXECUTED IN IRAN
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard reported that the executed individual was one of their citizens. Stenergard stated that the unnamed person was detained in Iran last June, and that Sweden has discussed this issue with Iranian officials multiple times.
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said, "The death penalty is inhumane, cruel, and irreversible. Sweden, along with the rest of the European Union, condemns its application under any circumstances." Stenergard also expressed that the legal process leading to the execution did not meet fair trial standards.
EXECUTIONS CONTINUE IN IRAN
A report published today by the Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the Iranian Judiciary, stated that an individual named Kurosh Keyvani was found guilty of providing images and information about sensitive locations in Iran to Mossad and was sentenced to death. It was reported that Keyvani's death sentence was carried out in the morning after the legal process and approval by the Supreme Court. It was noted that Keyvani was recruited by Israeli intelligence over the internet, with the first contact being established by a Persian-speaking Mossad agent.
