The documents also indicate that Princess Sofia was invited by Epstein to a private film screening in New York in 2012, prompting the Swedish royal palace to make a statement. The name of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit also appeared in the documents, with claims that she had become pregnant by Epstein.
The new Jeffrey Epstein documents released to the public by the United States have reignited discussions about prominent figures from around the world. Claims that names from the British and Norwegian royal families, as well as Swedish Princess Sofia, were mentioned in the Epstein files have resonated widely in the foreign press.
MET WITH EPSTEIN MULTIPLE TIMES
According to the Swedish foreign press, it was stated that Princess Sofia met with Epstein multiple times before joining the royal family, and these correspondences were leaked to Swedish newspapers. The documents suggested that the Princess met Epstein in social settings in New York around 2005, was introduced through financier Barbro Ehnbom, and that Epstein expressed a desire to host Sofia at his private island in the Caribbean.
ROYAL PALACE IN A DIFFICULT POSITION
These claims forced the Swedish royal palace to make a statement. The palace asserted that Sofia's contacts with Epstein were limited to social contexts and occurred before her royal period, claiming that she never visited Epstein's private island in the Caribbean and that there had been no contact in the last 20 years.
INVITED TO A FILM SCREENING
The newly released documents also increased the scale of the Swedish scandal. Some documents indicated that Princess Sofia was invited by Epstein to a private film screening in New York in 2012, while the palace stated that this invitation did not take place and that the princess was in Sweden at that time.
NORWEGIAN PRINCESS ALSO IN THE DOCUMENTS
These developments led the United States to once again scrutinize the connections of the millions of pages of Epstein documents with royal families. For instance, the British press critically highlighted photographs and correspondences of former Prince Andrew in the released documents, while Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit had to apologize due to flirtatious email contents.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Epstein, who was charged with sexually abusing dozens of girls under the age of 18, including the youngest being 14, and establishing a prostitution network, was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, New York, on August 10, 2019.
The released Epstein case files included famous names such as Prince Andrew, U.S. President Donald Trump, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, actor Kevin Spacey, singer Michael Jackson, illusionist David Copperfield, lawyer Alan Dershowitz, and former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.
The FBI also stated that, as a result of its investigation with the U.S. Department of Justice, there was no evidence of a "client list" of famous individuals being maintained, and it was concluded that Epstein, who was alleged to have been murdered to cover up the crimes of individuals including government officials, celebrities, and businesspeople, actually committed suicide in his cell.
