ATTACKED STUDENTS WITH A SWORD
A sword-wielding attacker struck Brinell High School in Fagersta, a town in central Sweden, at 2:06 PM local time. In statements made by Fagersta Municipality and the police, it was reported that security forces dispatched to the scene detained the suspect who had injured many people with a sword. Authorities have not yet shared specific information about the total number of injured in the attack.
ALERT RAISED AT SCHOOLS IN THE REGION
It was stated that police teams continued their search and investigation efforts with numerous resources and units at the scene, and the public was urged to obey security barriers and police instructions. Municipal officials announced that the police were continuing their searches in the high school building and that, as a precaution, other schools and facilities in the area, including Olympen, Fagerstahallen, Risbroskolan, Skogsglantan, Bjorksta, Prastkragen, and Norrbybacken, had been locked down and placed under protection.
Sweden's state television reported that numerous ambulances, police vehicles, special intervention teams, and a police helicopter were present around the school.
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE
Sweden's Minister of Justice, Gunnar Strommer, stating that the government was in close contact with security units and closely following the developments after the attack, said, "We have been informed about the serious incident in Fagersta. Police teams are at the scene and conducting very intensive work on the matter."
It was reported that Fagersta Municipality would hold a press conference to share details about the incident.
