The United Nations Security Council convened to address the latest political and humanitarian developments in Syria. During the session, countries such as the United States and Russia supported the decree of the Damascus government recognizing Kurdish rights, while UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific, Mohamed Khaled Khiari, stated, "We share concerns regarding the presence of foreign terrorist fighters in Syria."

At the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the recent developments in Syria and the "alarming humanitarian crisis" in the region were addressed.

In his opening speech, UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific, Mohamed Khaled Khiari, summarized the recent developments in Syria and issued warnings and recommendations regarding the country's future.

"AN ALARMING HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IS OCCURRING"

While delivering his speech, Khiari noted that clashes between Syrian government forces and the terrorist organization YPG/SDF continue in the Hasakeh and Ayn al-Arab regions, stating that "an alarming humanitarian crisis is occurring" in these areas. He said, "I would like to emphasize that all parties must ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure and facilitate access to humanitarian aid."

Khiari expressed the "concern" voiced by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on these issues and shared the call for "full respect for international law."

SUPPORT FOR SHARA'S DECREE

Khiari pointed out the importance of the statement made by Syrian President Ahmed Shara regarding the linguistic, cultural, and citizenship rights of Kurds in the country, stating, "This unprecedented decree is a courageous initiative that can be further developed through a truly inclusive process."

"WE SHARE CONCERNS ABOUT THE PRESENCE OF FOREIGN TERRORISTS IN SYRIA"

UN Assistant Secretary-General Khiari emphasized that despite positive developments in Syria, the terrorist organization ISIS still poses a threat, stating, "We share concerns about the presence of foreign terrorist fighters in Syria."

Khiari shared information indicating that there are signs of some ISIS members escaping from the camps where they are held, calling on the Syrian government to "exercise full attention" to ensure the regular transfer of ISIS detention facilities.

Khiari noted that as critical developments continue in Syria, they want to see the Office of the Special Representative for Syria engaging in this process in a "structured and supportive manner" on the ground.
