Following the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria, the Interim Government has taken office; however, tensions in the country remain high. Protests have been held in the cities of Latakia, Tartus, and Homs, where people claim that attacks have been carried out against 'Syrians who served as officials during the Baath era.' It has also been reported that gunfire was opened during the protests.
After the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria by opposition groups led by HTŞ, hot developments continue to unfold. The established interim government has begun to re-establish its diplomatic contacts.
TENSIONS ARE ALSO OCCURRING
Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise in the country. In the cities of Lazkiye, Tartus, and Homs, the public held protest demonstrations. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated in a social media post that many minority groups, especially Alawites, have organized protests, claiming that they attacked "Syrians who held public office during the Baath era."
SOHR also claimed that "HTŞ opened fire on the protest demonstrations, resulting in deaths and injuries."
DEVELOPMENTS IN SYRIA
On November 27, opposition groups against Assad, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTŞ), launched an attack on the Syrian army loyal to Bashar Assad, and on December 8, they took control of the capital, Damascus. Thus, the 13-year civil war came to an end, and the Assad regime was toppled. The ousted leader Assad fled the country and sought refuge in Russia.
