The Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality's allocation of a budget of 100 million TL for the planned "Multipurpose Hall Project" in the Şemdinli district of Hakkari has ignited discussions. The controversial decision was accepted by a majority vote. CHP member Cüneyit Zorlu reacted to the decision by saying, "You cannot give 100 million TL to Şemdinli Municipality while Ortahisar Municipality is supposed to receive 30 million TL."

In the February meeting of the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Council, the "sister municipality" initiative, which includes the Multi-Purpose Hall Project to be built in Şemdinli, made a significant impact on the session. The plan to allocate approximately 100 million TL for the project sparked discussions.

"THIS AMOUNT CAN BE SPENT ON TRABZON"

According to news in the local press; CHP Group Deputy Chairman Cüneyit Zorlu reacted to the decision by stating that the metropolitan municipality and many district municipalities are experiencing financial and resource problems. Zorlu said, "The cost of the investment to be made in Şemdinli is around 100 million TL for this city. With what right do you think about investing 100 million TL in this district? It is absurd to transfer 100 million TL to Şemdinli while we have a debt of 977 million TL in interest. This money could be used for investments in kindergartens, fields, or elderly care homes in our city."

"IT IS ONLY A POLITICAL SHOW"

AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Ahmet Altıntepe, on the other hand, defended the "sister municipality" protocol, stating that it is valuable. Altıntepe said, "When compared to the scales of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, it is the municipality with the least debt. They are only saying this for political show. I do not accept this."

ADOPTED BY MAJORITY VOTE

Council Vice President Cevdet Bayraktar emphasized that Trabzon's needs are not being ignored, trying to calm the discussions. In the voting held, the relevant article was accepted by majority vote.

THE COUNCIL HAS ENDED, BUT THE DISCUSSIONS HAVE NOT: FIRST PAY YOUR DEBT

After the decision was accepted, the debate continued outside the council hall. Cüneyit Zorlu continued his reaction by reminding that Ortahisar Municipality has a receivable of 30 million TL, saying, "While Ortahisar Municipality has a receivable of 30 million TL, you as Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality cannot give 100 million TL to Şemdinli Municipality."
