Cambodia has decided to suspend all border crossings as a security measure following recent conflicts with Thailand.
Cambodia has announced that it has suspended all entries and exits at its border with Thailand for security reasons following recent clashes between the two countries.
In response to the conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia, a new move has come from Cambodia. According to a report by the Khmer Times, the Cambodian Ministry of Interior made a statement regarding the latest developments at the Thai border.
ENTRIES AND EXITS SUSPENDED
According to the statement, it has been decided to completely suspend all entry and exit movements at the Cambodia-Thailand border until further notice.
The decision was made to ensure the safety of citizens from both countries and foreigners in the region.
During this process, Cambodians and Thais who are outside their country's borders have been warned not to leave their current locations until a ceasefire is fully implemented.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Thailand and Cambodia, which share an 817-kilometer border in Southeast Asia, have been experiencing a long-standing territorial dispute.
Despite a ceasefire declared in October after repeated clashes, the two countries had blamed each other for the resumption of hostilities a few days ago.
Hundreds of thousands of people from both countries have been evacuated from the border area, and more than 20 people have lost their lives in the recent clashes.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced yesterday that the parties accepted the ceasefire following discussions with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia.
On the other hand, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated that "Thailand will continue its military actions until it feels that there is no harm or threat to our lands and people" following Trump's announcement of the ceasefire.
