18-year-old Lalit Patidar from India has won the Guinness World Record in the "hairiest male face" category, with hair covering 95% of his face. Lalit has a very rare genetic condition known as "hypertrichosis," commonly referred to as "werewolf syndrome."
This syndrome occurs in one in a billion people. According to Guinness World Records, there have been only about 50 documented cases worldwide from the Middle Ages to the present day. Lalit has approximately 202 hairs per square centimeter on his face.
Although Lalit faced fearful looks from his friends during his childhood, he has accepted his condition today. "The first day of school was tough because the other kids were scared of me, but over time, when they got to know me, they realized I wasn't that different from them," he says.
The young man, who has over 108,000 followers on his YouTube channel, raises awareness by sharing his daily life. Lalit formalized his record on the "Lo Show dei Record" program held in Milan, stating, "I am very happy to receive this recognition."
The only treatment for Lalit's condition is to regularly trim the hair. Despite suggestions for permanent solutions, Lalit expresses, "I love being the way I am and I don't want to change my appearance," indicating that he accepts himself as he is.
Recently, similar cases have been reported in Europe. Particularly, a dozen cases reported since 2023 have caught the attention of scientists. Research suggests that this condition, especially seen in infants, may be related to exposure to a substance called minoxidil, which is used in hair loss treatment.
