In Kocaeli, public transportation fares have been increased by 35%. The new rates came into effect on February 10. However, the people of Kocaeli are reacting to the price hikes, arguing that the new tariffs for minibuses, buses, trams, and sea transportation have exceeded the increases in minimum wage, civil servant salaries, and pension payments.

The Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) meeting was held at the Kocaeli Congress Center with the agenda of transportation fare increase. During the meeting, the transportation fares of the districts were also changed along with the fare increase.
