The sexual assault and murder of an 11-12 year old girl in India's West Bengal state has caused widespread outrage in the region. An angry mob lynched and killed one person, while police have taken 35 people into custody. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder.

According to a report on the Telegraph India website, the body of a girl aged 11-12, reported missing on Saturday in the city of Baruipur in West Bengal, was found in a pond.

35 PEOPLE DETAINED
In a statement made by an official from the Baruipur Police Commissionerate to India's official news agency PTI, it was stated that 35 people were detained in operations against suspects who attacked police vehicles and damaged public property.
Police officials stated that two separate investigations are being conducted regarding the lynching of a person allegedly a suspect during the protests in the area and the attacks on the police.
4 DETAINED IN CONNECTION WITH THE MURDER
So far, 4 suspects have been detained in connection with the sexual abuse and murder case of the girl. One of the suspects was killed in a clash while trying to escape after snatching a police officer's gun during a crime scene investigation on Tuesday night.
