On December 28, 2024, during the verdict hearing at the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court, the detained defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, were each sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional murder of a child in participation," while Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime." THEY REQUESTED NEVZAT BAHTIYAR'S RELEASENevzat Bahtiyar's lawyers, Adnan Ataş and Ali Eryılmaz, submitted a petition to the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court, where the trial was held, to be sent to the Diyarbakır 9th Heavy Penal Court on Friday, January 3, requesting the release of their client. Lawyer Ataş stated the following in the petition: "Since the evidence has been collected, there is no possibility of tampering with the evidence, there is no concrete evidence in the file regarding the suspicion of flight, the crime is not among the catalog crimes, considering the execution law, the detention measure is punitive in nature, the judicial control measures are sufficient, and all necessary precautions have been taken by the security regarding personal safety, we declare that the decision to continue the detention of our client is erroneous. We request the acceptance of our objections, the annulment of the decision regarding the continuation of detention, and the release of our client by applying the judicial control provisions regulated in Article 109 of the Criminal Procedure Code." THE OBJECTION TO DETENTION WAS REJECTEDThe Diyarbakır 9th Heavy Penal Court, which examined the applications, rejected the release requests of the lawyers of the informant Nevzat Bahtiyar. It was stated in the announcement that the detention decision was in accordance with the law and that Bahtiyar would continue to remain in prison.
