ESCAPED WHILE WEARING AN ELECTRONIC ANKLE MONITOR

Serdar Sertçelik, who is both the secret witness and the second defendant in the Ayhan Bora Kaplan investigation, managed to escape abroad despite wearing an electronic ankle monitor. Inspectors appointed by the Ministry of Interior Affairs determined in their report that information was provided to border gates 9 days after Sertçelik fled abroad. It was revealed that no investigation was initiated in this context and that there was an abuse of duty related to the incident.

HISTORY OF THE INVESTIGATION

An investigation was launched on May 6 by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the fugitive defendant Serdar Sertçelik's allegations in the Ayhan Bora Kaplan criminal organization case. Out of the 10 suspects detained within the scope of the investigation, 7 were arrested for the crimes of "attempting to influence a judicial officer, expert, or witness," "disclosing confidential information related to duty," and "favoring the guilty."

Meanwhile, it was learned that the investigation into the suspects for the crime of "conspiring to commit an offense against the security of the state or the constitutional order" regulated in Article 316/1 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) is ongoing.
