Despite the freezing cold in Bitlis, the Perseid meteor shower was observed in the dark bays of Lake Van and at the foothills of Nemrut Caldera. Associate Professor Dr. Cihan Önen captured impressive images where the sky meets nature in areas far from light pollution.
Bitlis Eren University Faculty of Health Sciences Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Cihan Önen captured the Perseid meteor shower in the dark bays of Lake Van and the slopes of Nemrut Crater in freezing cold.
The Perseid meteor shower, which is photographed every year by photographers from many provinces of Turkey, was also captured this year. Assoc. Dr. Cihan Önen, a faculty member of the Faculty of Health Sciences at BEU, photographed the meteor shower last night in the dark bays of Lake Van in the Tatvan district, away from the lights, despite the freezing cold.
"WE HAVE BEEN WATCHING EXCITEDLY SINCE DECEMBER 14"
Assoc. Dr. Önen, who conducts nature and space observation in the region, said, "To not miss the last sky show of the year, we turned our eyes and our equipment to the sky despite the freezing weather. The meteors tear through the depths of the sky with a great sparkle, shining and disappearing. The location and natural structure of Bitlis provide an ideal environment for observing such celestial events. The magnificent star and meteor show in the sky, combined with the earthly scenery like Lake Van and the slopes of Nemrut Crater, creates mesmerizing frames. The meteor shower peaked around December 14. Its effect has decreased a bit these days. We have been watching excitedly since December 14," he said.
