One of the leading names in the automotive industry, BYD, has been accused of human trafficking. The allegation that 220 Chinese workers were forced to work under inhumane conditions in Brazil has plunged the Chinese automotive giant BYD into an international scandal. Brazil has filed a $50 million compensation lawsuit against the company for allegations of human trafficking and slavery.

The China-based electric vehicle giant BYD has come to the forefront with a lawsuit filed in Brazil. The allegation that 220 Chinese workers were forced to work under inhumane conditions has alarmed both the international community and human rights organizations.

50 MILLION DOLLAR COMPENSATION CLAIM FROM BRAZIL

The Brazilian prosecutor's office has filed a lawsuit against BYD for violating workers' rights, forced labor, and human trafficking. A compensation claim of 50 million dollars has been made as part of the lawsuit.

FAKE DOCUMENTS AND FORCED LABOR ALLEGATIONS

It was determined that 220 Chinese workers employed in the construction of BYD's factory in Camaçari last year were brought to the country with fake documents. Reports indicate that the workers' passports were confiscated and they were forced to work.

SLAVE-LIKE CONDITIONS: AGAINST HUMAN DIGNITY

According to the investigation file, the areas where the workers stayed were lacking in hygiene, their beds had no mattresses, and the number of shared toilets was insufficient. It was reported that workers who queued for the toilet at 4 AM could not even meet their basic human needs.

BYD'S DEFENSE: A SMEAR CAMPAIGN

BYD officials denied the allegations, claiming that they are cooperating with the Brazilian prosecutor's office and complying with the laws. A company spokesperson asserted that these accusations are a provocation targeting China and Chinese brands.
