The baby gorilla's name is "Zeytin."

The teams of the Ministry of Trade's Customs Protection Smuggling and Intelligence Department monitored a cage-type box that departed from Nigeria and arrived in Bangkok on December 22, 2024. A critically endangered baby gorilla was seized from the box. It was reported that the health condition of the baby gorilla, which is being rehabilitated and cared for by the personnel of the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, is improving and it continues to be kept under observation.

Name suggestions were received from the official social media account of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for the baby gorilla being kept in a zoo located in Istanbul. The four most suggested names, "Kömür" (Coal), "Misket" (Marble), "Zeytin" (Olive), and "Üzüm" (Grape), were put to a vote.

A total of 122,493 people participated in the voting conducted via social media. 15.6% of the participants suggested "Üzüm", 26% suggested "Misket", 27.8% suggested "Kömür", and 30.6% suggested "Zeytin". As a result of the voting, the baby gorilla's name was determined to be "Zeytin".
