The mother of the 5-month-old baby found dead in their home in Kastamonu has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

In her defense, Yasemin G. stated that she left home the day before the incident, saying, "I didn't come home in the evening; I spent the night outside. I slept for a while on a bench in Nasrullah Square. When I woke up to the morning call to prayer, I went home and checked on the child. The child's eyes were closed, and their whole body was stiff. I changed the diaper. I was going to breastfeed, but they didn't suck. So, I called C.H. and said, 'Something has happened to the child.' I didn't call 112 or the police. I called my mother, and she came. She looked at the child and said, 'You have killed the child.'
THE AUTOPSY REPORT OF THE BABY DETERMINED THAT THEY DIED DUE TO HUNGER AND NEGLECT
The court sentenced Yasemin G. to 22 years in prison for intentional murder by negligent behavior towards a child who cannot defend themselves. C.H. was acquitted. On May 9, 2023, 5-month-old Esmanur G. was found dead in her home on Onay Street in the Topçuoğlu neighborhood, and the autopsy report determined that the baby had died due to insufficient nutrition and neglect.
