President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated in his first comment on U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza plan, "As Turkey, we will continue to contribute to the process for a lasting peace."
President of the United States, Donald Trump, made a statement regarding the peace plan in Gaza, with President Erdoğan saying, "As Turkey, we will continue to contribute to the process for a lasting peace."
After the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump announced that the 21-point peace plan for Gaza had been accepted by Netanyahu.
TRUMP: NETANYAHU ACCEPTED
Speaking after the meeting at the White House, Trump stated that Netanyahu accepted the 21-point plan, saying, "Gaza and Hamas will be disarmed. If Hamas accepts the Gaza Plan, all prisoners will be released. If Hamas rejects the agreement, we will provide full support to Israel."
"HAMAS WILL NOT PLAY A ROLE IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF GAZA"
Regarding the Peace Plan for Gaza, Trump said, "For this plan to be successful, an international oversight body needs to be created, which we will call the Peace Council. It's a very nice name." He added, "Of course, we need this to work. Leaders of the Arab world, Israel, and everyone involved in the process will be included. They will do this at the request of U.S. President Trump. One of the people who wants to be part of this council is former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
There are other names, and we will announce them in the coming days. Everyone wanted me to be part of this council as well. We will work with the World Bank and other institutions to establish a new administration. Qualified experts will join this council alongside the Palestinians. Hamas officials will not play a direct or indirect role in this council and the administration of Gaza," he stated.
FIRST COMMENT FROM PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN
Trump's announced plan also received its first comment from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Erdoğan, who made a statement on his social media account, said, "I appreciate the efforts and leadership shown by U.S. President Mr. Trump to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and achieve a ceasefire.
As Turkey, we will continue to contribute to the process for establishing a fair and lasting peace that the parties will accept," he stated.
HAMAS: TRUMP'S GAZA PLAN HAS NOT REACHED US YET
On the other hand, Hamas also made its first statement. A senior Hamas official, Muhammed Mardawi, stated regarding Trump's Gaza plan, "It has not reached us yet."
GAZA WAS ON THE AGENDA AT THE TRUMP-ERDOĞAN SUMMIT
Recently, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza was also on the agenda during the Erdoğan-Trump summit held at the White House. In the joint press statement made after the summit, Trump noted that they had a very good meeting regarding Gaza with President Erdoğan and other leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, stating, "I think we are close to reaching some kind of agreement."
Trump emphasized that he wanted the crisis in Gaza to end and all prisoners to be released, saying, "We had a great meeting with the leaders of the Middle East regarding Gaza. We want to get all hostages back. I think we are very close to reaching an agreement."
Stating that they had important contacts with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and some other regional countries in addition to Turkey, Trump indicated that he hoped to reach a concrete result regarding Gaza after discussions with Israel.
