Mersin Deputy Mehmet Emin Ekmen stated that the banner carried a discriminatory and alienating language, making strong statements. Ekmen opposed the banner with the words, "Isn't Batman a team of this country? Aren't its players, fans, and city citizens of this country? You would think that the descendants of the Ottomans are playing a match with Byzantium. Isn't it shameful?"

CALLED ON AUTHORITIES TO TAKE ACTION
Questioning how the approximately 50-meter-long banner was brought into the stadium, Ekmen called on the Turkish Football Federation and security units to take action. Ekmen argued that the incident was not an isolated one and stated that more deterrent sanctions should be applied against hate speech in sports.
