Israeli forces detained Hiyam Ayyaş, the wife of Yahya Ayyaş, known as "The Engineer," who was killed in 1996, due to a commemoration post she made on the anniversary of her husband's death.
THEY RAIDED THE HOUSE The incident occurred in the Jabal al-Shamali area of Nablus in the West Bank, where Israeli soldiers reportedly raided the house and detained Hiyam Ayyaş. The reason for the detention was cited as the "provocative message" she published on January 5, the anniversary of her husband's death.
Yahya Ayyaş. THEY BLINDFOLDED HER AND TOOK A PHOTO The soldiers who carried out the detention blindfolded Hiyam Ayyaş and took a photo with her, sharing these images on their social media accounts. This post drew significant public backlash.
WHO IS YAHYA AYYAŞ? Yahya Ayyaş was born on March 6, 1966. He graduated as an "engineer" from Birzeit University in 1991. After graduation, he wanted to go abroad for a master's and doctorate, but due to Israel's refusal to grant permission, he stayed in Palestine and joined the resistance.
Ayyaş was killed on January 5, 1996, as a result of an explosion allegedly triggered remotely by explosives placed in his phone during an operation monitored by the Israeli internal security agency Shin Bet.
