27-year-old teacher Melike Arıkan, who was severely injured after being hit by a light commercial vehicle that moved during a battery boost in Zonguldak, lost her life after a two-day struggle for survival. The death of the young teacher, who was reported to have been newly assigned to the city, caused great sorrow.
TRAGEDY DURING BATTERY BOOST
The accident occurred on February 25 at the intersection of Aydoğmuş Street and Hürriyet Avenue in the İncivez neighborhood. According to allegations, a light commercial vehicle with the license plate 35 CFV 074, belonging to M.F.C., suddenly moved while another vehicle was being boosted.
The out-of-control vehicle first hit a trash container, then struck Mehmet Arıkan (60), his daughter Melike Arıkan (27), Berna K. (19), and Mehmet Özgür C. (45), who was assisting with the boosting process.
YOUNG TEACHER COULD NOT BE SAVED
Upon notification, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulances. Melike Arıkan, who was reported to have been newly assigned as a teacher in Zonguldak, passed away two days later at Zonguldak Atatürk State Hospital, where she was receiving treatment.
The death of Arıkan, who was learned to be registered in the population of Düzce's Yığılca district, plunged her family and loved ones into mourning. It was reported that the other injured individuals were in good health.
Police teams, who have launched an investigation into the accident, are looking into the details of the incident.
