An elderly man, who was severely beaten and whose neck was attempted to be broken by a helmeted and gloved attacker while sitting in the garden of his home in Mersin, lost his 18-day battle for life. It was learned that judicial proceedings against the suspect, who was arrested on charges of 'Attempted Intentional Murder', will continue on charges of 'Intentional Murder'.

The man, who was reportedly intended to have his neck broken, lost his 18-day battle for life in the hospital. It was learned that judicial proceedings against the arrested suspect will continue on charges of "intentional murder."
THEY TRIED TO BREAK HIS NECK AND KICKED HIM REPEATEDLY
The incident occurred on July 24 in Türkmen Street, Koyuncu Neighborhood, Erdemli district. According to the information obtained, Hasan Hüseyin Belen (80), a father of six who had difficulty walking for about 3 years, was attacked by a person wearing a helmet and gloves while sitting in his garden. The attacker, who tried to break the elderly man's neck, kicked the fallen man's head repeatedly and fled. Hours later, his daughter Ayfer Uyanık, who came to feed her father, saw the situation and called for help. Health teams arriving at the scene took the elderly man to Erdemli State Hospital. After initial intervention, Belen was transferred to Mersin City Hospital and taken to intensive care. The elderly man, who had been undergoing treatment at the city hospital for 18 days, died today despite all interventions.
THE FOOTAGE OF THE EVENT HAD HORRIFIED EVERYONE
Under the coordination of the Erdemli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, police work identified the suspect as A.Y., 47. The suspect was captured in an operation at his address, tracked step by step through 114 security cameras in the area, starting from the security camera in front of the house. The suspect, who was taken into custody and referred to the courthouse on charges of attempted intentional murder, was arrested by the court. Meanwhile, the security camera footage remained in everyone's minds. The footage showed the suspect, wearing gloves and a helmet, first trying to break the elderly man's neck, and when unsuccessful, kicking him repeatedly on the ground.
On the other hand, it was learned that legal action will be taken against the suspect, who was arrested for attempted murder, on charges of 'Intentional Murder' due to the elderly man's death.
