It has been revealed that the increasing aircraft delays and decrease in flight numbers in civil aviation are due to air traffic controllers demanding higher salaries. The move by the controllers to switch to a "work without initiative" system has been considered as "blackmail", and it has been learned that President Erdogan has instructed to urgently resolve this issue, do whatever is necessary, and hold those responsible accountable.

While the increasing flight cancellations and airplane delays in civil aviation have become one of the most important agenda items in recent days, it has been learned that one of the reasons for the crisis is the transition of air traffic controllers to the "working without taking initiative" system, demanding an increase in their salaries.

DISCUSSED IN THE MKYK MEETING

It has also been revealed that this development, which was evaluated as "blackmail", was discussed in the AK Party's MKYK meeting on Tuesday and it infuriated President Erdogan. Erdogan instructed his aides, saying "Resolve this issue urgently, do whatever is necessary, hold the responsible parties accountable," according to reports.

STATEMENT FROM THE UNION

Meanwhile, the Air Traffic Controllers and Other Transportation Workers Union (HTK-SEN) announced new dates for the working without taking initiative activity. According to a report in Türkiye newspaper, the union, which decided to carry out the activity until August 5th, stated that "Costs are being increased through air traffic controllers in all of Europe. The improvement of our air traffic controllers' working conditions and their rights will provide additional tax revenues to our treasury without burdening our state budget. These demands can be easily met with a few simple regulations in some laws," in the statement made by the union.
