Upon receiving information that FETÖ member coup plotter Brigadier General Semih Terzi was attempting to seize the Special Forces Command headquarters in Gölbaşı, Ankara, Sergeant Major Ömer Halisdemir, who was on duty under the command of then-Special Forces Commander Major General Zekai Aksakallı, changed the course of the coup attempt by shooting the terrorist Terzi at the entrance of the headquarters. Halisdemir was martyred shortly after neutralizing Semih Terzi by gunfire from other FETÖ traitors.

In the 9 years since his martyrdom, Halisdemir's heroism has been etched in the memory of Turkey, and through a special application conducted at the site where he fell, the area containing traces of blood has been covered with a transparent and durable material. Right behind the covered ground is Halisdemir's monument. Additionally, a fountain has been built at the spot where Halisdemir was shot by FETÖ traitors. The fountain features the poem "30 Birds" written by Poet Dursun Ali Erzincanlı.
