The Brazilian Supreme Court announced that the access ban on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) will be lifted in the country. According to a statement published on the court's official website, the X platform has complied with the court's requests. With this development, the X platform, which has been inaccessible since August 31, can be used again by Brazilian users. History of the Access Ban: The Brazilian Supreme Court had requested information from X about some users as part of the investigation into the "coup attempt" involving former President Jair Bolsonaro and had asked for some accounts to be blocked. After X rejected this request, the court had given the company 24 hours to appoint a legal representative in the country. Following the failure to appoint a representative and the non-payment of fines within this period, an access ban was imposed on August 31. Elon Musk, the owner of X, reacted strongly to this decision, stating, "Freedom of expression is the cornerstone of democracy, and the unelected so-called judge in Brazil is destroying it for political reasons." This latest development indicates that the tension between social media platforms and the government in Brazil has temporarily come to an end. However, discussions regarding freedom of expression and internet regulations are expected to continue.
