Citizens living as tenants in a building located in the Fatih neighborhood of Arnavutköy, Istanbul, have revolted against the situations they have faced over the past year.
STOLE THEIR SHOES AND PACKAGES, THREW STONES AT THEIR WINDOWS
According to allegations, a person who is the nephew of the landlord and has rights in the building removed the shoes of the tenants that were at their door. While stealing their incoming packages, he dismantled security cameras and threw stones at the windows. The residents of the building revolted against the situation and requested help from the authorities regarding the matter that was reported to the police.
"HE MADE OUR LIVES HELL"
Latif Özbudak, a resident of the building who claims to have suffered, said, "We are having problems with the landlord; he constantly causes us trouble. He cuts our phone wires, our belongings are stolen, one of our neighbors installed a camera, and the camera wires were cut. We have been tenants here since 2003; he made our lives hell. Unknown people enter the building, and we constantly encounter them. I told him, but they did not take it seriously. Cameras were installed here, and they cut them; we are constantly having problems with these issues. Our children cannot go outside; we are always anxious."
"WE PAY RENT BUT OUR PEACE IS DISTURBED"
Veli Bastık, another resident of the building, said, "I have been living here for 4 years. It is unclear who comes and goes; we do not know anyone. There were cameras, but they broke them, they damaged the properties, and there are many unnecessary issues. The peace of the building has been disturbed. The windows of the apartment were broken; in fact, they broke them. We are tenants here, we pay rent, but our peace is disturbed. When our guests come, they feel uneasy."
