The armed opposition groups' takeover of the capital Damascus and the end of the 61-year Baath regime also led to the release of prisoners in Sednaya Prison. The torture devices in Sednaya Prison, a large military prison located in the outskirts of Damascus where thousands of Syrians were tortured and killed, were horrifying. IRON EXECUTION PRESS FOUNDAn iron execution press was found in the prison. The shocking device revealed the ruthless face of the regime. It was observed that the bodies of executed prisoners were placed in these presses, flattened, and their bodies and bones were crushed into molds. It was understood that the remains were put into a bag and thrown outside the prison through the blood channels under the press. SEDNAYA, THE TORTURE CENTER OF THE ASSAD REGIMEAccording to reports published by international organizations, it is stated that Sednaya Military Prison, located 30 kilometers from the capital Damascus and affiliated with the collapsed regime's Ministry of Defense, was transformed into a base for anti-regime peaceful protesters and anti-regime military elements after the events of March 2011. The reports indicate that the officials of the overthrown regime organized the silent and systematic killing of thousands of people they detained in the prison. Reports revealing that the regime carried out extrajudicial executions through "mass executions" in the prison noted that between 2011 and 2015, approximately 50 people were hanged every week, sometimes every two weeks. The reports also show that the regime deliberately kept those detained in Sednaya in inhumane conditions, tortured them repeatedly, and systematically deprived them of food, water, medicine, and medical care. The 2017 investigation by Amnesty International revealed that the murders and tortures in Sednaya since 2011 were part of a widespread and systematic attack against the civilian population in the country and were conducted as part of the regime's policy. Amnesty International concluded in its report that the violations by the officials of the collapsed regime in Sednaya constituted crimes against humanity.
