The trial of the man who was arrested on the charge of burning his wife Hanife Yılmaz with gasoline in the Menteşe district of Muğla has begun.

"I WAS STUNNED WHEN I SAW MY WIFE BURNING"

The hearing at the Muğla 3rd High Criminal Court started with the defense of Hasan Bulut (45), who is being tried while in custody. Bulut, who claimed in his first statement that he was not at the scene and had gone to the market, made contradictory statements that overshadowed the hearing. Bulut said, "I did not go to the market, I did not say such a thing, I was at the scene, I was not myself." In response to witnesses stating that Hasan Bulut did not intervene in the fire and remained motionless, Bulut said, "I was stunned when I saw my wife burning."

"HE HAD A JEALOUSY CRISIS"

Bulut stated, "My wife was using alcohol. Recently, my wife's psychology deteriorated. When she was drunk, she would lose herself. On the day of the incident, I had come from Bodrum Mumcular. My wife was again drunk. She had a jealousy crisis. She yelled that I was late. My wife set herself on fire. The children were inside. My wife was burning in front of my eyes. I was frozen. Neighbors called an ambulance. We went to the hospital by ambulance," he said. Bulut finally stated that he did not see the lighter that ignited the gasoline.

"HASAN WAS LAUGHING WITH HIS HANDS AND ARMS TIED"

Halil A., the son of Hanife Yılmaz, said, "I was working in Milas. I came to Muğla for a week. Hasan returned from Mumcular. Hasan and my mother were arguing. Hasan said, 'I am fed up with you, even if I go to prison, I want to be free from you.' They argued with my mother. They went outside. While I was going from the kitchen to the bathroom, I heard him say, 'I will burn you and your house too.' I came out of the bathroom. My mother was burning. I tried to put it out. Hasan was laughing with his hands and arms tied. The gasoline bottle was at Hasan's feet. I saw him throw the lighter. My brother had filled a jar with water. Then the neighbors came. He threatened us, saying, 'What I did to your mother, I will do to you too,'" he stated. The court decided to continue Hasan Bulut's detention, and the hearing was adjourned to January 22.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The incident occurred on May 19 in Hafız Gürül Street, Düğerek Neighborhood of Menteşe. Auto electrician Hasan Bulut and his wife Hanife Yılmaz, who is the mother of two children, argued in their garden.
