The chairman of the CHP, Özgür Özel, in his hometown of Manisa, stated that the district chairman of Salihli, Enver Akgün, reported that some NGOs, institutions, and influential individuals within the party intervened in the delegate elections and that they were threatened both openly and covertly. Akgün announced that he resigned for these reasons.
Enver Akgün, the Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Salihli District, announced that he has resigned from both his position as district chairman and his candidacy for the presidency in Salihli.
ALLEGATION OF "INTERFERENCE" IN DELEGATE ELECTIONS
Enver Akgün, the current CHP Salihli District Chairman and a candidate in the elections, along with candidates Burak Kultaş, Mehmet Dönmez, and Olgun Özbudak, made a joint statement at the party headquarters. In the statement, it was claimed that there were attempts to interfere with the delegate elections and that threats had been received.
"CHP HEADQUARTERS MUST TAKE NECESSARY ACTIONS IN THE DISCIPLINARY BOARD"
Reading the joint statement, Olgun Özbudak said, "We invite all our members who engage in politics under the roof of the Republican People's Party to take a stand against such disciplinary offenses. It should not be forgotten that the Republican People's Party has a history that does not bow to pressures. Therefore, it is imperative that the events are urgently brought to the attention of the party's disciplinary boards at the headquarters, necessary actions are taken against those responsible, and the trust and reputation of our organization in the eyes of the public and our members in Salihli are restored."
RESIGNATION DECISION FROM CHP SALİHLİ DISTRICT CHAIRMAN
Özbudak noted that some NGOs, which were supposed to remain neutral in the elections, as well as influential individuals within the party, interfered in the delegate elections through pressure and undemocratic methods, stating that the CHP Headquarters needed to intervene in the ongoing process.
CHP Salihli District Chairman Enver Akgün stated, "Throughout the election process of the CHP Salihli District, I maintained my candidacy while adhering to the values of our party and democratic principles. My aim was to advance our party in Salihli and strengthen our unity and solidarity. However, this process has created an unhealthy election environment due to the open and covert threats from certain institutions. Under these conditions, we believe that a genuine democratic competition is not possible. Therefore, in order not to harm the future of our party and Salihli, I announce to the public that I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for the district chairmanship. Additionally, I am resigning from my position as District Chairman effective immediately."
