Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the upcoming meeting expected with Russian President Vladimir Putin could be hosted by Turkey, Gulf countries, or European countries.
ZELENSKY: THE MEETING WITH PUTIN COULD BE IN TURKEY
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made statements regarding the expected meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky stated that Turkey, Gulf countries, or European countries could host the meeting. Zelensky said, "Now, this week there will be contacts with Turkey, there will be contacts with Gulf countries, and there will be contacts with European countries that could host talks with the Russians. Everything will be prepared at the highest level from our side to end the war."
Zelensky had previously stated that he was ready to meet with Putin, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had reported that there was no preparation for such a meeting.
LAVROV HAD ALSO POINTED TO ISTANBUL
On the other hand, regarding the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Zelensky, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Putin had indicated their readiness to continue negotiations by recalling the three rounds of meetings held in Istanbul this year with U.S. President Donald Trump.
"THE LEVEL OF DELEGATIONS IN ISTANBUL SHOULD BE RAISED"
Lavrov said that Putin had conveyed the message that "very good preparation" was needed for the summit meetings aimed at bringing together the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, and he suggested raising the level of delegations in Istanbul.
Providing details about the talks in Istanbul, Lavrov noted that Russia had proposed the establishment of working groups for Ukraine in the last negotiations, but no response had been received yet.
Lavrov described Zelensky's statement that his urgent priority was to meet with Putin as a "game," claiming that Ukrainian and European actors participating in the meeting in the U.S. were trying to "distort" the security issue discussed between Trump and Putin in Alaska.
