A 3.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Germencik district of Aydın in the morning hours, followed by a striking warning from earthquake expert Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan. Ercan stated that the region will continue to strain for a larger earthquake, advising, "Stay away from fertile wetlands and live in solid buildings in safe places closer to the Aydın mountains to the north."
According to the data from the AFAD Earthquake Department in Aydın's Germencik district; an earthquake measuring 3.8 occurred this morning at 06:17. The earthquake, recorded at a depth of 7 kilometers, caused a brief panic, and attention turned to expert statements.
SCARY WARNING FROM AHMET ERCAN
Geophysicist Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan made striking warnings for Aydın and its surroundings in his assessment following the earthquake. Ercan emphasized that the tremor centered in Germencik occurred at an expected point, stating that the stress in the region continues.
"LARGER EARTHQUAKES WILL OCCUR IN THE REGION"
Prof. Dr. Ercan used the following statements in his explanation:
"I had said that the new earthquake focus would be Aydın–Germencik after the 2020 Kuşadası–Samos M6.9 earthquake. The M3.7 tremor that occurred at 06:17 in Balatçık-Germencik formed in the expected location. This region will continue to build stress to produce a larger earthquake. In the future, we will experience these earthquakes in Aydın province."
"STAY AWAY FROM WET PLAINS"
Ercan, who also drew attention to the residential areas in Aydın, stated that the ground structure is of vital importance. Ercan said, "Stay away from fertile wet plains. Live on solid ground and in solid buildings, closer to the Aydın mountains to the north. The source of geothermal energy is also earthquakes," he said.

Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan also pointed out the location of the recently opened Aydın City Hospital. Ercan stated, "Unfortunately, the Aydın City Hospital, which was opened with a ceremony the other day, has been built in the most hazardous place. Do not stray from the path of science. It is not the fracture, but the tremor that destroys," he said.
