The co-chairs of the Mediterranean Municipality, affiliated with the DEM Party, have been detained.

Co-chairs Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in Mersin's Akdeniz Municipality, along with some council members, were detained. Following the early morning home raids, the municipal building was surrounded by police.

EXTENSIVE SECURITY MEASURES WERE TAKEN

Among those detained are Municipal Council Members Özgür Çağlar, Hikmet Bakırhan, and Neslihan Oruç. It was reported that extensive security measures were taken around the municipal building during the detention operations.

DEM Party Mersin Deputy Ali Bozan described the detentions as a "political setup" in a statement on his social media account, saying: "Our co-chairs of Akdeniz Municipality, Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, along with our council members, were detained through a political setup. Mersin's peace is again being attempted to be disturbed by a trustee. Mersin will not accept this attempt to usurp the will. We invite all our people, especially the elected representatives of Mersin, to stand up against the usurpation of Akdeniz Municipality."
